For this simple DIY you will need a piece of 1”x 12”x 8’ knotty pine wood. Start off by measuring out 2 feet along the board and mark this spot. Make a straight cut along your marked area. Using this cut piece of wood cut two more pieces from your board to match. These will act as the shelving units for the rolling cart. Make sure your pieces are even to allow for spacing between shelves.
Now that you have your cut pieces, you may want to sand off any areas with flared wood chips. Having a smooth surface will allow for even coating when staining. Choose your colour of stain and make sure to do this in a well-ventilated area with a drop cloth to prevent mess. Let your stained boards dry completely before moving on to assembling your DIY bar cart.
Time to assemble the base of your DIY bar cart project! It’s best to start from the bottom and make your way upwards. Start by flipping your bottom piece over and attaching four swivel caster wheels to the corners of your board with ¾” wood screws.
Turn your board back over and attach four ½” iron flanges (these look like donuts with four screw holes) to the corners of your board with the same screws. We used black iron pipe fittings for an industrial look.
For the bottom piece use 4 ½”x18” iron nipples and twist these into the flanges.
It‘s best to attach your next set of iron flanges onto the nipples before placing the next board on top so you can drill the screws in from below. For this step it is best to have someone help keep the boards in place when drilling in screws.
After you’ve attached your second board, attach four more flanges into place, next you will add four ½” x 12” nipples into these flanges. Repeat the process of adding flanges and placing the final board on top.
For the handle, you will want to assemble it first before screwing anything in. Take two ½-inch flanges and screw in two ½-inch x 2-inch nipples and two ½-foot, 90 degree elbows with a ½-inch x 8-inch nipple running across. Screw this handle into place about 1 inch away from the corner of your board on either the right or left side.
Style your finished DIY bar cart with your choice of food or beverages that can easily be wheeled outdoors for parties or entertaining guests. Or use your cart indoors as a coffee bar to make the most of your versatile DIY project.
