If you’re looking to add a bit of functional space to your seating area, this DIY side table is the perfect project. It’s simple to assemble and adds a cool-looking space to place drinks, a book or anything else you’d need while sitting on your couch. We’ll show you how to build it in this guide.
There are 7 steps to completing this project:
First, grab your lumber. You’ll need the cuts in the list below, so make sure you’ve got enough wood to make them all. It’s good practice to get a bit more lumber than you need, in case you make a measurement error or cut something incorrectly.

Lay the two 29 1/2-inch pieces on their sides and attach six 10-1/4-inch pieces to the top and bottom using wood glue – it should resemble a ladder when done. Let the glue dry and then drill pilot holes for the screws that will attach the six pieces more permanently.
To create the bottom frame for your DIY end table, take one 10 ¼-inch piece and -- using wood glue -- attach two 10 ¼-inch pieces to either end on the inside of the top piece. Drill pilot holes and then fasten them together with wood screws.
Apply wood glue to the ends of the frame (the ones facing outward) and slide them into place at the bottom of the ladder. Fasten the whole thing together with wood screws.
Attach the top frame, making sure to drill pilot holes and use wood glue. Fasten them together with wood screws.
Use wood filler and fill all the holes over top of your screws to hide them. Allow it to dry and then sand your project until smooth.
