How to Select the Perfect Sheen

Flat/Matte

This sheen provides a low-lustre appearance that’s great for low- to moderate-traffic areas. With our scrubbable formulas, you can now use matte/flat paint in any room for a sophisticated designer look. It’s also the best at hiding surface imperfections and is easy to touch-up.

Ideal for: Family/Living Rooms, Bedrooms and Ceilings

Eggshell

With a soft and velvety appearance, this popular sheen offers mould and mildew resistance that makes it great for use in a non-traditional room like a bathroom or kitchen. It gives you a more subtle finish that suits popular farmhouse or mid-century modern design trends.

Ideal for: Kid’s Bedrooms, Family Rooms & Hallways.

Satin

If you’re seeking a pearl-like appearance, satin is the finish for you. It offers stain and fingerprint resistance and easy clean-up, making it best for areas regularly exposed to moisture like washrooms, laundry rooms and kitchens. Use satin on your trim for a more subdued finish. Our paints offer the market leading scrubbability and washability to keep your trim looking fresh for years.

Ideal for: Kitchen, Bath & Laundry Rooms.

Semi-Gloss

A radiant sheen with superior scrubbability, durability and moisture resistance. Ideal for trim, interior shutters, cabinets and moulding, as well as high-moisture areas.

Ideal for: Kitchen, Bath, Trim, Windows & High-Traffic Areas.

Hi-Gloss

This sheen creates a glass-like finish for trim, moulding, cabinets and doors. Higher-gloss finishes are durable and easy to clean, but they highlight surface imperfections – this is important to consider when painting walls. Gloss paint is also great for transforming old furniture into statement pieces.

Ideal for: High-Use Surfaces, Cabinets &
Interior Furniture.

Primer

Use before painting to ensure better adhesion of paint to surfaces, increase paint durability and provide additional protection for the material being painted.

Ideal for: Base-coat. Used to prime your surface before painting.

How To Choose A Paint Colour

How to Choose Paint Colour.

Picking a paint colour depends on several factors including in: lighting, furniture, flooring and personal taste. Here are some questions to ask when making your decision:

  1. What colour family do I want?
  2. Do I want a shade that’s dark and dramatic, light and airy, or something in between?
  3. Do I want a bright colour with pop and energy, or a soft, muted shade?
  4. Will there be an accent wall or contrast trim?

Tip: How to Find the Perfect Grey Paint

Grey Paint.

Greys are a basic core colour. Behr’s Loft Space N500-2 - shown here in the nursery - goes great with pastels and bright accent pieces.

Asphalt Gray N520-6 (in the bedroom), Cool Ashes N520-4 (living room wall) or Graphic Charcoal N500-6 (shown on the fireplace) can create a bolder look and act as a great background colour, which you can then pair bright colours with to really make them pop.

Ceiling Paint

How does ceiling paint differ from wall paint?

It's formulated in an ultra-flat finish to minimize glare around the ceiling surfaces. Formulated primarily for hide and coverage, you’ll hide imperfections better but it’s less washable overall.

To add some drama to your space, use a different sheen or colour on your ceiling.

Painting a stucco ceiling?

Make sure to test your stucco to see if it’s sealed. Here’s how: in a discreet corner of the room, use a damp cloth or spray bottle to wet the stucco. If the stucco begins to soften or crumble, you're going to need prime your ceiling with an oil-based ceiling paint. If the stucco remains intact, you are ready to paint with any ceiling paint.
