How to Remove Carpet

a man removing carpet

Whether replacing an older carpet or putting down hardwood or laminate, you’ll need to remove the existing carpet before you get started. Carpets can be installed in a number of different ways. Luckily, most carpets are only fastened around the edges, making the job a lot easier.

To remove carpet installed with tackless strips, remove shoe mouldings or other edgings and cut the carpet into manageable strips with a utility knife. Pry up on the carpet corner, and pull it free from the strip along both walls. Repeat the process until the entire carpet is free.

  2. Step 2 Removing Carpet Installed With Carpet Tacks
