Step 2 Locate your Wall Studs
Using your stud finder, locate the studs in the wall and mark them with a pencil for reference. Mounting your pieces into the studs will make them sturdier.

Step 3 Lay the First Board with a Level
Starting at the floor, lay the first row of shiplap with the groove side down. Use a carpenter’s level to ensure it is straight. Making sure it’s straight now will make things much easier for the rest of the project.

Step 4 Fasten the First Piece to the Shiplap Wall
Using a hammer or nail gun, fasten the board to the wall. Ensure the nails line up with the wall studs for maximum strength. Nail through the nail line on the tongue of the product to keep things looking neat.

Step 5 Lock the Second Board into Place
When installing the second row of boards, ensure they lock into the first row of boards. Then nail into the nail line and continue.

Step 6 Continue Each Row Until the Area is Covered
Once your second board is mounted, simply continue this way until the desired area is covered. Joints should be staggered by each row, because randomly placing your joints throughout the wall is more appealing than a vertical line of cuts going up the wall. Once the last board is placed, your shiplap wall is done!
