There are 7 steps to completing this project:
Anything you don’t already have on hand can be found at your local Home Depot. If you need assistance finding anything, a store associate will be happy to help you.
Each of your 2x4 boards should be cut to a length of 13 inches. Cut a 45-degree mitre at the end of each 2x4. You’ll need 4 pieces cut like this. The backboard can be cut to 17-3/8 inches long.
On each of your short pieces, mark two-centred points 4-6/8 inches from the long ends of each 2x4. Drill holes for the bottlenecks at these points, using a 1-1/4 inch Forstner bit. Remember to protect your workspace with a piece of disposable wood underneath the board you’re drilling!
Tape the end mitres together and glue the ends. Drill pilot holes, then attach these pieces with 2-1/2-inch screws.
Measure along your backboard where the assembled rack will fit, marking points where it will attach via the keyhole hangers. Drill holes in the rack, and insert the screws where it will attach to the keyhole hangers.
Sand and apply the wood stain to both the rack and the backboard. Let it dry.
When the stain is dry, use screws to attach the corner braces. Hang the rack on the backboard, and you’re done!
