Resurface Your Concrete Driveway

Resurface Your Concrete Driveway

Give your driveway a face lift. Rejuvenate the appearance of your concrete driveway by applying concrete resurfacer to give it a brand new look and feel and protect it from the elements.

Skill Level: Beginner
Time:
  1. Step 1 Wash and Clean the Driveway

    Wash and Clean the Driveway

All existing surfaces must be structurally sound, dry and completely clean. Remove all sealers, dirt, oil or any contaminant that may act as a bond breaker. Clean surfaces using mechanical methods such as a high-pressure power washing or abrasive blast. Clean out debris from expansion joints and tape or mask off the joints to prevent the material from filling the joint.

  2. Step 2 Fill Cracks

    Fill Cracks

All cracks should be repaired prior to application of Stone Mason concrete resurfacer. Use Stone Mason concrete crack filler specifically designed for the fast repair of cracks, holes and other minor imperfections in any horizontal concrete or masonry surface. Grey, pourable and self-levelling, Stone Mason concrete crack filler is formulated to fill cracks up to 1/4" wide. It is fast-drying and dries hard for superior traffic resistance.

  3. Step 3 Apply Stone Mason Concrete Resurfacer

    Apply Stone Mason Concrete Resurfacer

Using a mixing pail, mix the concrete resurfacer with water only at a ratio of 1.75 L of clean water for each 9 kg bag; each bag will cover approximately 20 sq.ft. at 1/8". Do not overwater. Stone Mason concrete resurfacer can be applied as thin as 1/16" for resurfacing and up to 1/2" for patching small areas. After mixing, pour the mixture onto the area and spread evenly with a flat trowel or squeegee using firm trowel pressure to ensure maximum bond. Maintaining a wet edge when overlapping will help to minimize the natural colour variations that can occur between areas.

  4. Step 4 Finish Edges

To obtain a professional look, the edge of the project should be finished using a 3" paintbrush or edging tool while the surface is still wet. The pot life of Stone Mason concrete is approximately 30 minutes at 21°C and will vary with the ambient temperature. In warm weather, use cold mixing water to extend working time. Stone Mason concrete resurfacer is ready for light foot traffic after just 4 hours and heavy traffic after 24 hours. To reduce staining and damages, seal using Stone Mason concrete sealer.
