How to Replace a Kitchen Sink and Faucet

There are so many stunning faucets available today that they can make a design statement in and of themselves. Coupled with a shiny new sink, the wet area of your kitchen can be updated with minimal effort and time. Choose your style combination to complement the rest of your décor – modern, country, traditional. It's easy to find just the right look. A few tools and a little care will give you a whole new look with major impact.

  1. Step 1 Positioning Sink

    Measure and mark the centre of your cabinet on the countertop surface.

  2. Step 2 Layout Template

    Layout Template

    Layout the sink template using the centre mark and the manufacturer's offsets.

  3. Step 3 Drill Pilot Holes

    Drill Pilot Holes

    To accommodate the jigsaw blade, drill pilot holes in the countertop in the four corners of your sink template, just inside the cutout line.

  4. Step 4 Tape the Countertop

    To ensure that the jigsaw doesn't damage the countertop, apply masking tape along the outside of the cut line.

  5. Step 5 Cut the Sink Hole

    Cut the Sink Hole

    Run the jigsaw along the cut line. Support the cutout so it doesn't bind or damage the cabinet.

  6. Step 6 Dry Fit Sink

    Place the sink into position and check for fit. Then mark the holes required for your faucet on the counter, using the existing faucet hole(s) in the sink as a guide.

  7. Step 7 Drill Faucet Holes

    Drill Faucet Holes

    Remove sink and drill the faucet hole(s). Consult the manufacturer's instructions to determine the proper hole size.

  8. Step 8 Apply Putty

    Apply plumbers putty to the sink, as per the manufacturer's specifications.

  9. Step 9 Fasten Sink

    Fasten Sink

    Using the supplied "hold-downs", fasten the sink from underneath, making sure to follow the manufacturer's specifications.

  10. Step 10 Mount Faucet

    Mount Faucet

    Place faucet in proper hole(s) and mount underneath using supplied hardware.

  11. Step 11 Attach Braided Lines

    Attach Braided Lines

    Screw the braided lines to the faucet using an adjustable wrench, then attach them to the shut offs coming out of the wall.
