Step 1 Burn off Any Food Debris

Cleaning your BBQ grill keeps it running efficiently, can make sure you’re evenly heating your food and can even help reduce flare-ups. We’ll show you how to deep clean your grill so it’s ready for BBQ season.
There are 7 steps to completing this project:
Pre-heat your BBQ on high heat for about 15 minutes to loosen any stuck-on food, grease or debris on your grill. Afterward, be sure to turn your gas line off before you start cleaning your grates.
Fill a bucket with warm, soapy water. The water will create steam that will help loosen food up even more, and the soap will help with the grease. You can also use a specialized grill cleaning spray. Scrub your grill until it is clean. When using a stainless steel or brass wire brush, be sure to check your grill for stray bristles, and if the brush is starting to wear, replace it as soon as possible. Once your grates are clean, apply some vegetable oil or spray oil to condition them and help them stay cleaner in the future.
To really get your grill clean, you can remove the heat deflectors and burners and give them a good cleaning. Use soapy water and a stiff wire brush to remove caked-on food. Cleaning burners that have clogged can help give you more even heating. Rinse the burners inside and out and dry them with a paper towel. Leave them aside for the time being. Once the rest of the inside of the grill is clean you can reassemble them.
With the burners and heat deflectors removed, scrub the inside walls of your BBQ with warm, soapy water. Once clean dry them with a cloth and reinstall your burners and heat deflectors.
Use a stainless steel cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean your BBQ. For best results, go with the grain while cleaning. For ceramic, painted steel and porcelain BBQ’s, use soapy water instead. Wipe dry with a towel.
For charcoal or pellet BBQ’s, clean the grill with warm, soapy water, letting it soak if necessary. Then wipe down the inside of the lid and bowl using a steel wool pad or brush and let dry.
Maintaining your grill all season long can help get it ready for the summer and also for storage. Oiling the grill after cleaning is a great way to keep food from sticking to it. Make sure to replace any broken or worn out parts before using it. If you’re storing a propane BBQ outside, leave the tank attached, but out of direct sunlight. If storing it inside, remove the propane tank and leave it outside, away from the direct sun.
